First, begin your 7-Day Morocco Geological & Fossil Tour through the Atlas Mountains, leading you to the fossil-rich Anti-Atlas region. Next, visit the agate mine near Sidi Rahal, situated in Triassic lava. Afterward, make a scenic stop at Col du Tichka, which sits 2,260 meters above sea level. Following that, continue your journey through Triassic sediments and lava flows, and then visit a salt mine. Subsequently, pass through Jurassic and Cretaceous layers, finally reaching the town of Ouarzazate, where we’ll stay overnight.
Today, start your geological adventure by visiting ancient 600-million-year-old stromatolites. Then, head to the Draa Valley to observe the giant cold-water trilobites. Afterward, explore the Fezouata Shale deposit, which houses exceptional fossils resembling those found in the Burgess Shale. Finally, we’ll stay the night in Zagora.
Today, we’ll explore the Saredrar Orthoceras quarry near Tazzarine, followed by a visit to Alnif, known as the “Trilobite Capital of the World.” Here, you’ll have the chance to discover fossil shops and view the giant yellow Cambrian trilobites. Later, we’ll head to Jebel Tiskaouine, where we’ll stay overnight near Alnif.
To begin the day, we’ll visit the Maider Basin, known for its incredible trilobite fossils. Next, we’ll make a stop at Bou Dib, a famous trilobite site on the northern escarpment of Jbel Isoumour. Afterward, we’ll proceed to Merzouga, where you’ll enjoy a camel ride before staying for three nights.
In the morning, we’ll visit Taouz and the Kem Kem site, both renowned for their diverse fossils. Next, we’ll head to Erfoud to explore fossil displays. Later, we’ll visit the Filon 12 mine, which extracts mineral specimens like vanadinite and quartz. To conclude the day, we’ll enjoy stargazing in Merzouga.
On the way back to Ouarzazate, we’ll stop at the Todra Gorge, which has been carved through the Jurassic layers of the High Atlas. Afterward, we’ll have lunch before continuing our journey back to Ouarzazate, where we’ll arrive by late afternoon.
In the morning, we’ll visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, an ancient fortified settlement and famous film location. Then, we’ll cross the Atlas Mountains, have lunch, and return to Marrakech. Afterward, you’ll have free time to explore and shop in the souk before the tour concludes.
